With the hiring of 23-year-old Kathryn Plummer, the 2021/22 roster of Imoco is being completed: the Long Beach spiker is the 15th American to wear the yellow and blue colors, one of the youngest to arrive from overseas, as were Kelsey Robinson and Rachael Adams. His talent emerged in his university years at Stanford, with which he reached the NCAA final four times in a row, winning the tournament three times, as well as several individual titles. Thanks to this fulminating career in January 2020 she was hired by Monza, highlighting herself in the few races played before the pandemic: the 11 average points and the excellent 52% in attack came from the double role of opposite (as change for Ortolani ) and a spiker, paired with Orthmann. And precisely this tactical flexibility could be another weapon in Santarelli’s rotations, always considering the limit of foreigners in the field in the Italian championship: Plummer can be, in certain situations, a second alternative to Egonu, as well as a fundamental piece of the wall, thanks to its 201 cm of height, which make it the tallest player in the team (De Kruijf 193, Fahr 192, Egonu and Butigan 190). In recent days at the VNL with the US national team, Plummer comes from the season played in the Japanese V. League among the ranks of the Denso Airybees.
For her, arriving at the Imoco means aiming for the maximum possible. “The prospect of being surrounded by the best players and the best coach in this sport today and being able to learn as much as possible from them: these are my main reasons for choosing Conegliano”. Taking over the role from Kim Hill will be a challenge in the challenge. “Kim is a great volleyball player and an even better person, I know that coming after her is a great responsibility, but I’m ready to take care of it, I’m here to give my best.” The placement shouldn’t be problematic as the group is tried and tested and already has some knowledge. “I know Megan Courtney and also Asia Wolosz; I know that there are all girls available and I think there will be no problems. From a technical point of view, Plummer should also be at ease. “I’ve seen some games of Imoco: the game is similar to that of the USA and I like it very much.” In the coming days, the Americans aim to regain VNL, before flying to Tokyo. “I will be a reserve at home for the Olympic roster, so I will continue to train to be ready for any eventuality.”
The arrival of Plummer closes the list of the very few innovations at Imoco: now only the four power plants Folie, De Kruijf, Fahr and Butigan are missing, whose renewals will be confirmed in the coming days. –
