LIGA DE QUITO UNVEILS JOSEP ALCÁCER AS NEW HEAD COACH

After an extensive search, Liga de Quito has officially introduced Josep Alcácer as the successor to former head coach Luis Zubeldía. The Spanish tactician was confirmed as the new gaffer on Monday, January 8, 2024, and is set to lead the Ecuadorian club into a pivotal year following their success in 2023.

Alcácer arrives in Ecuador with experience in the lower divisions of Spain and has previously served as an assistant coach for teams including Granada and Elche. The 44-year-old’s appointment has sparked uncertainty among the club’s fanbase, as they gear up for a busy 2024 campaign.

Zubeldía, who played an instrumental role in capturing the LigaPro and Copa Sudamericana in 2023, bid farewell to the club following Esteban Paz’s exit. The departure of the former coach has resulted in more control going to club president, Isaac Álvarez, and Adrián Gabbarini in terms of making the sporting decisions.

Alcácer’s hiring has led to mixed reactions among supporters, as they question the Spaniard’s unfamiliarity with Ecuadorian football. However, with the club set to participate in various competitions such as the Copa Libertadores, LigaPro, Recopa Sudamericana, Copa Ecuador, and Supercopa Ecuador in 2024, Alcácer will have ample opportunities to prove his worth.

The new coach’s arrival has sparked discussions among fans, and a survey has been conducted to gauge public sentiment toward Alcácer’s appointment, with a significant portion showing optimism about his ability to contribute to the club’s success.
