Ragusa football defeated at home by league leaders Trapani

Second setback in a row for Ragusa football who, after the holiday break, was forced to surrender to a square and motivated Trapani which, not surprisingly, deservedly occupies first place in the Serie D group I championship.

In the first match of the second round, the Azzurri coached by coach Giovanni Ignoffo tried to counter the Granata’s triumphant ride and, up to a certain point, they had even succeeded. But the guests slowly took the measures to the premises and, also thanks to some defensive lapses by the hosts, especially in the phase of setting up the maneuver from below, they managed to capitalize, with the right amount of experience, a series of opportunities which, already at the end of the first half, allowed Trapani to lead with the result of 3-0 thanks to the two free kicks scored by Cocco and Kragl and the close range shot by Sbrisso who won a duel on the edge of the line bottom with Mbaye.

In the second half, the result did not change although Ragusa tried to reduce the gap, without ever being truly dangerous, and Trapani paid more attention than anything else to safeguarding the conquest of the three points up for grabs which were never put into question.

“Let’s say that we had worked, during the week, to prepare some things that we weren’t able to replicate as we would have liked during the match – says Mr. Ignoffo – I can’t blame the boys for anything in terms of commitment but I would have wanted them more determined, with greater competitive malice, in certain circumstances. On the other hand, if you then encounter a series of blunders and find yourself in front of this Trapani there is little to say other than encountering, as happened, a series of conclusions that cut us short. We wanted to do much more, therefore, but we weren’t able to. We tried to maneuver, and in some cases we even succeeded, but we didn’t get what we had tried and all this, in the long run, affected our performance to the point of compromising the result. It’s really a shame because I was thinking, on this occasion, of competing in another race. But anyway, sometimes we have to deal with situations like this and we have to take note of it.”

“I congratulate Trapani for having read the match in the best way – continues Ignoffo – and, above all, in the first half for having been able to press wisely until they managed to break the deadlock. Then the other two goals arrived and for us, at that point, it became an almost insurmountable obstacle. Now, let’s move on to the match in Castrovillari in which we will have to try to recover the ground lost in these last two matches, in addition to the one against Trapani, the other at home against Città di Sant’Agata. I want to express my particular thanks to the fans in grandstand B who, for the entire ninety minutes, in the rain and hail, without any cover, never stopped cheering us on. And I can assure you that in those conditions it wasn’t easy. Thank you so much for your support.”
