Venezuelan catcher Johnny Pereda has signed a Minor League contract with the Miami Marlins, in a move aimed at securing a spot in Major League Baseball (MLB). The 27-year-old has previously had great performances in the lower circuits of various teams, including the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds, without making it to the majors. However, with the Marlins, Pereda will have greater opportunities to showcase his skills.
In 2023, Pereda hit .325/.405/.468 with six home runs and 36 RBIs in 67 games in the Reds’ Triple A branch. These impressive numbers have earned him an invitation to Spring Training with the Marlins, where he will have the chance to prove himself and potentially secure a starting role as catcher.
