Salomón Rondón Pays $600,000 to Leave River Plate and Join Pachuca
Salomón Rondón surprised many in December 2023 when he announced his decision to leave Argentine soccer club River Plate. Despite being with the team, Rondón cited his family’s struggle to adapt to Argentina as the reason for his departure. He then made arrangements to join Guillermo Almada’s Pachuca in Mexico.
Although the decision was unexpected, River Plate agreed to let Rondón go. However, they negotiated a sum for the termination of his contract, which Rondón agreed to pay. The amount, as revealed by Olé journalist Germán Balcarce, was $600,000 and was deposited by Rondón on February 22.
The payment was made in accordance with the agreement reached between Rondón and the club. Additionally, Rondón had also returned money that had been paid to him in advance for the 2024 season.
Rondón’s transfer to Pachuca allows the Mexican club to strengthen its lineup with a free agent who has experience playing in South America and Europe. So far in the Clausura 2024 season, Rondón has scored four goals and provided two assists in eight games.
