There are traditionalists who claim that the heart of football beats not in the first or second division, but in the third division. You don’t have to go all the way to Giesing, Essen or Bielefeld to find arguments for it. Basically, just look at Dresden, where Dynamo’s phobia of promotion seems a little bigger and more inscrutable than in the drama that the Hamburg sports club puts on year after year.
FC Ingolstadt 04 has now become noticeable in this traditional league. The club in whose name the year refers to the anniversary that is coming up on July 1st – the 20th birthday. The Ingolstadt team has promoted Sabrina Wittmann, previously coach of the U-19 juniors.
Wittmann is in charge at least until the end of the season, at least against Mannheim, Lübeck and Sandhausen and in the final of the Bayern Cup. And thus the first woman in German professional football to coach a men’s team full-time. Congratulations. And: About time.
