Salvini in Russia, even the cold bishops: “Unitary initiatives or is it just rhetoric”

Rome, 30 May 2022 – Matteo Salvini’s mission in Moscow continues to create discontent even if it is still not possible to understand whether the leader of the League actually wants to fly to Putin or not, carrying on the rift already opened in the majority. What is certain, however, is that the new president of the Italian bishops, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, has also entered the debate on the subject: “I believe that as much as possible we need to agree on initiatives – underlined the archbishop of Bologna – because otherwise they risk to be rhetorical, they risk being made only to show that something is being done, which is not very intelligent. In short, interviewed by the regional news, Zuppi hinted at his political concern, attacking Salvini and a leading role in itself on which the climate is increasingly tense.
