Search for a coach in Munich: setback for FC Bayern – Rangnick is not coming

Coach Ralf Rangnick has rejected FC Bayern Munich. Rangnick said he would remain the Austrian team boss in a statement from the ÖFB.

Ralf Rangnick doesn’t want to go to FC Bayern. The 65-year-old announced that he would remain national coach in Austria. After the cancellation of master coach Xabi Alonso and national coach Julian Nagelsmann, it is the next setback for the Munich team. The search for a new head coach for the Bavarian starting team around Harry Kane starts from scratch again.

Rangnick: “Austrian team boss with all his heart”

“I am the Austrian team boss with all my heart. This task gives me incredible joy and I am determined to successfully continue on our chosen path,” said Rangnick in the statement from the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB). “I would like to expressly emphasize that This is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but a decision for my team and our common goals. Our full concentration is on the European Championships. We will do everything we can to get as far as possible there.”

With the Alpen Republik team, Rangnick managed to qualify for the European Championships and his team triggered unprecedented euphoria around the ÖFB team. If you talk to Austrian fans, they are full of praise for the German football teacher.

At the ÖFB, on the other hand, they were “extremely happy,” said association sports director Peter Schöttel: “We understood that he had two very attractive options and gave him the time to weigh everything up in peace. We are proud that he chose Austria Has decided.” ÖFB President Klaus Mitterdorfer sees the decision as a “clear commitment to a common future”.

Apparently not everything was right

Around Munich’s Champions League game against Real Madrid, those responsible at FC Bayern were still confident on Tuesday that the 65-year-old’s commitment could be completed in the next few days. Sports director Christoph Freund had also hoped that “a decision would be made for us in the near future.” But only if “both sides are convinced of it, then it will be done.” Rangnick was probably not entirely convinced that it was the right career move for him and is now concentrating entirely on the upcoming European Championship participation with Austria.
