Shinji Okazaki will be hanging up his football boots at the end of this season. STVV announced this in a press release. The 37-year-old Japanese hardly played this season due to injuries.

Just a few more months and Shinji Okazaki’s rich career will be over. The Japanese veteran will then have defended the colors of the Canaries for two seasons. Under Bernd Hollerbach, ‘Oka’ was a certainty as an attacking midfielder, but this year the Japanese has been struggling from one injury to another. His last appearance is a substitute against RWDM on December 16. Since then he has been sidelined with a knee injury.

Okazaki is now fully focused on his recovery, so that he can say goodbye to professional football in style. “I gave everything as a football player, but as a sportsman you also have to listen to your body,” said Okazaki. “Today I am reaching my physical limits. In the remaining weeks I will do everything I can to get fit, so that I can contribute to the team and say goodbye on the field.”
