Show tonight in Belluno: Colbrelli the spearhead of the Cycling Stars Criterium

European champion Sonny Colbrelli

The Brescia player won the European title after the national one in Trento just yesterday. On the other hand, the presence of other big names on an international level is still uncertain

Sonny Colbrelli’s gold stars will shine this evening in the sky of Belluno. Yesterday evening, in fact, the organizers of the second edition of Cycling Stars Criterium, the two-wheeler event (what was once called the “circuit of the axes” and which was a constant of the Italian summers) which will return to Belluno, in the square dei Martiri, after a year of absence, confirmed the already announced presence of the Brescia player who just yesterday afternoon in Trento dressed in the white-blue jersey (adorned with gold stars) of the European champion, beating in a sprint on the straight Belenzani the Belgian talent Remco Evenepoel.

An important name, therefore, in international cycling, an athlete who this season has been able to conquer the Italian champion’s jersey and do very well in the Tour de France before yesterday’s success, the most prestigious of his career.

A question mark concerns other big names (in recent weeks the staff has worked to get some veterans from the European championship such as Peter Sagan, Filippo Ganna and Matteo Trentin and also the winner of the Vuelta Primoz Roglic) while the Venetian Francesco is given for certain. Lamon, Olympic champion in team pursuit at the recent Tokyo Olympics together with Ganna, Simone Consonni and Jonathan Milan, outgoing European champion Giacomo Nizzolo, veteran Davide Rebellin (who turned 50 last August) and Alessandro De Marchi, the “Rosso di Buja” who wore the pink jersey for two stages at the last Giro d’Italia.

Another Friulian, Matteo Fabbro, is also in the running.

The match should also be Matteo Pelucchi and Davide Cimolai, the Vicenza’s Andrea Pasqualon and Enrico Battaglin (winner of three stages at the Giro d’Italia in 2013, 2014 and 2018), the youngsters of Bardiani Filippo Zana and Fabio Mazzucco.

Some under 23s are also at the start, such as the tricolor Gabriele Benedetti (ZalfFior) and the Cadorino di Pieve Andrea Pietrobon (Cycling team Friuli).

The professional race will be staged starting at 8 pm (it will last about three quarters of an hour, that is to say about fifty laps, it will also depend on the weather) and will be the last act of an intense afternoon that will see, at 7 pm, the kermesse of the former.

Among these, Davide Cassani, Lello Ferrara, Gianni Faresin, Alessandro Bertolini and Franco Pellizotti are announced.

The Cycling Stars Criterium program also includes a space dedicated to young people.

In fact, starting from 4 pm, the “mini cyclists” of the Giovanissimi category (bands G4, G5, G6) will compete.

This will be followed by the departures of Debutants, Debutant Women and Pupil Women.

This evening’s event is part of a larger project, that of Veneto Cycling Promotion, an initiative to promote cycling and tourism conceived by Alessandro Ballan, the Treviso from Castelfranco world champion in 2008 and winner of the Tour of Flanders in 2007, with the support of the Veneto Region and the Province of Belluno.
