The ‘Kustboys’ can take on the relegation match against Seraing with confidence. The licensing committee decided today that there will be no additional points deduction, as all debts (approximately 1.1 million euros) were repaid on time.
The coastal team has already lost six points in the Challenger Pro League. Another loss of points could have hurt them badly, but in the end it didn’t get that far. This is evident from an official press release on the club website. “The Licensing Committee of the KBVB today considered the file of KV Oostende,” the statement begins. “As we already reported, the overdue debts for VAT, RSZ and transfers were paid, which also led to the decision that no further points deduction will follow. KVO will therefore go into next Sunday’s mutual match with a two-point lead over Seraing.”
Provisional administrator Werner Van Oosterwyck breathes a sigh of relief. “We were reasonably reassured because the requested payments were made. However, we already expected the final verdict last week, so we still have to wait for the final verdict. We now no longer have to worry about an additional point deduction. So all focus can now go to the turf and the important match against Seraing.”

Sporting interests are great
Ostend has so far been able to gain 25 points from 26 games in the Challenger Pro League. That is two units more than first pursuer Seraing. Bottom line SL16 FC still has to make up eight points on the coastal team. Next Sunday, KVO will play the relegation cracker visiting Seraing. “However, we will do everything we can to achieve sporting preservation on the field despite the earlier deduction of six points,” Van Oosterwyck said.
However, the route of the coastal team does not bode well. Next week, leader Beerschot will visit, and a match day later they will take on Patro Eisden, one of the surprises of the season. On the final matchday they look SL16 in the eye in what could easily become a direct battle for survival in the Belgian second division.
