The international alpine skiing season restarts from Austria: the 2021-2022 World Cup kicks off in Sölden, on the Rettenbach glacier. Today the female giant will be on stage (first heat at 10, second at 13.15 with live coverage on Raisport and Eurosport), tomorrow space for men (first heat at 10, second at 13.30, always live on Raisport and Eurosport). The Ötztal weekend, which has now become a traditional “prologue” in the white circus (the Cup will then restart in mid-November to end in mid-March), will see the return of the public after a closed-door season and will be the first act of a season which will have its highlight at the Beijing Olympics. The big names in skiing will also return to Cortina: after the World Championships last February, the appointment in Ampezzo is for the usual two days of the Women’s World Cup: the days are those of 22 and 23 January, a weekend in which the girls will compete in downhill and super-G. In anticipation of all this, today we start with Sölden.

Italy in pink has Marta Bassino, Federica Brignone, Sofia Goggia, Elena Curtoni, Roberta Melesi, Roberta Midali, Karoline Pichler and Ilaria Ghisalberti to replace Laura Pirovano who has been injured in recent days.

The men on the track tomorrow will be Giovanni Borsotti, Simon Maurberger, Luca De Aliprandini, Riccardo Tonetti, Alex Vinatzer, Hannes Zingerle, Giovanni Franzoni and Filippo Della Vite.

Giovanni Franzoni will make his debut on the Rettenbach, a talent from Brescia from the Fiamme Gialle who grew up in the Agordo Dolomites.

“A great emotion given that there are many firsts: it’s the first time that I compete with the public and I make my debut in Sölden where we trained last week, a job that has served us a lot”, says the former of the Ski College Veneto di Falcade who in the past season made his debut in the World Cup and at the World Championships and also won two medals at the Junior World Championships, “I hope the snow is harder than seven days ago: we will do one last training before the race while today (yesterday,ed) was more of rest and athletic recall in the gym.
