The seizure of assets and properties of the governor Christian Solinas, investigated for corruption in an investigation a year ago, breaks into Sardinia’s electoral campaign and deepens the crack already open in the centre-right. The finance company carried out the precautionary seizure of assets worth around 350 thousand euros from the outgoing president and six others under investigation for corruption.
A judicial turning point, the reasoning goes in circles within the governing majority, which could accelerate the outcome of the centre-right candidate and Solinas’ possible step backwards in the race for an encore. An epilogue that has been hovering for days and which would definitively open the way for Paolo Truzzu, the mayor of Cagliari pushed by the Brothers of Italy and already on an electoral tour in the smaller municipalities of the island as a candidate in pectore. At the moment, only the League remains in support of Solinas, which has never removed its support from him. Nor does it do so now, even if some distinctions from Salvini were noted in the morning: “For me, in principle it is always better to support the outgoing candidates – the Northern League leader said in Agorà – but in the name of coalition unity we will find a agreement”.
Meanwhile displaced by the judicial tile, the governor is confident that his innocence will be recognized. And on Tg1 at 8pm he points the finger at the suspicious “timing” of the investigation: the seizure “was made four days after the presentation of the lists and while the candidate for unitary president of the centre-right is being decided”. In addition to denouncing the methods: “Being in the investigation phase, we are talking about acts that should be covered by investigative secrecy.”
Words that follow those of the number two of the LeagueAndrea Crippa: “We vote on February 25th and with perfect timing, legal troubles arise for Solinas”. The deputy confirms his “solidarity with the governor” and wishes “good work to the magistrates who will have to face very intense weeks”. The rest of the party is silent, however it is revealed that the developments of the investigation will not change the cards on the table. In other words, if the current governor takes a step back, he will not depend on investigations and prosecutors.
In short for now the League is not giving up on the game even if several majority sources are betting on the fact that the agony is now numbered and a decision will arrive shortly. Nor does he intend to give in on the dispute over the third term of governors, a ploy to secure Veneto which will go to the vote in 2025.
Salvini confirms that the third mandate – on which Forza Italia’s reservations remain – “is a question of democracy” and in any case he shows off excellent relations with Giorgia Meloni: “they are absolutely calm”, he assures. The Sardinian Action Party is also on standby, which confirmed the name of Solinas in the logo registered days ago and has given itself until Friday to dissolve the reserve. Then, the national council will be the one to make the final decision, after not even the national leadership, in permanent session for a long time, was able to do so. The Sardinians would be faced with a crossroads: stop and support Truzzu or risk a break and run alone.
In any case the games will end on Monday when the deadline for submitting the lists and for the comparisons expires. From a judicial point of view, in the first line of the investigation, the entrepreneur Roberto Zedda and the regional councilor Nanni Lancioni are under investigation together with Solinas. In particular, under the spotlight of the investigators is Zedda’s sale of a property owned by Solinas in Capoterra and the subsequent purchase of a house by the President of the Region near Poetto in Cagliari.
