PAVIA
A little luck was lacking for the swordsmen from Pavia engaged in Bressanone in the male sword competition cat.1 (40-49 years) of the Italian masters. The fifth place of Federico Bollati and the ninth of Carlo Fenzi, the two athletes from Pavia Fencing in the race, are good results, but with some regrets: the two from Pavia, in fact, had conquered the seeded in the knockout draw, but then the dream of the final vanished: Bollati, after two clear victories over Aurelio Cucchiara (Pro Novara) and Simone Baroglio (Casale), was defeated by a single jab (9-10) by Roberto Simeone (Fencing Treviso Ettore Geslao); the same goes for Carlo Fenzi, overtaken 5-6 by Paolo Salamandra (As Pinerolo); the race was then won by Francesco Varone (Pentamodena), ahead of Salamandra and Simeone. In the male sword cat. 0 (24-40 years old), Gianluca Manni, after three group wins, stopped in the second knockout round. In the cat. 2 (50-59 years) won by Gabriele Vincenzi (Koala Reggio Emilia), while the Vogheresi of the Piccolo Teatro pole, Alessandro Depase and Renzo Armelin, passed the first round, but stopped on the threshold of the round of 16; in the cat. 3, won by Giuliano Pianca (Imola), Maurizio Crivelli immediately paid for the poor luck of the group round, with a win and three defeats for a single hit against tough opponents. Finally, Daniele Savio, Cus Pavia, finished eighth in the cat.1 won by Enrico Benedetto (Giardino Milano). –
