Initiative in collaboration with “Save the children”: the Ligurians donate 50 percent of the proceeds, the rossoblù company makes available the consideration of the proceeds from the guest sector

CAGLIARI. A special match will be played on the next day of the championship: Spezia-Cagliari, scheduled for Saturday 12 March. The two Serie A clubs have in fact decided to support the Ukrainian population by supporting Save the Children – the international organization that has been fighting for over 100 years to save the lives of girls and boys and guarantee them a future – to concretely help children who right now they are suffering the heavy consequences of the conflict.

Spezia Calcio, to make its contribution in this dramatic and crucial moment for the survival of so many children, has decided to donate 50% of the proceeds from the sale of tickets for this round of the Championship to Save the Children. Furthermore, given the capacity of the stadiums reduced to 75%, the Aquilotta club has decided to symbolically put the remaining 25% of tickets on sale. These virtual tickets will not allow entry to the stadium, but will be a way for everyone, fans and non-fans alike, to make a donation to Save the Children.

Cagliari Calcio welcomed La Spezia’s initiative and, fully sharing its motivations and objectives, decided to donate to Save the Children the consideration for the entire guest sector of the “A. Picco ”of La Spezia. An unprecedented and concrete way that the two clubs have chosen to send a common message to the world of football and make the Ukrainian population feel the closeness not only of the clubs but symbolically also of both sides of the fans. It is possible to contribute and be part of the initiative even without going to the stadium: just buy one or more tickets to the virtual stadium by connecting to the special section of the Save the Children website dedicated to the initiative www.savethechildren.it/speziacalcio, choose the preferred sector of the stadium and the amount to donate. For each virtual ticket purchased, a t-shirt will be created which will occupy the empty seat in the stadium. In fact, during the donation phase, the fan / donor will have the possibility to choose a sentence that will be printed on the shirt and which, together with all the others, will form a choreography in the stands of the ‘Picco’ Stadium.

As a result of the conflict in Ukraine, millions of children have been forced to leave their homes, fleeing across the border to neighboring countries while many others have remained in Ukrainian cities seeking shelter in underground shelters. Save the Children, which has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, is continuing to operate in the country through its partners, as well as at the border with Romania and Poland, and distributing winter kits and hygiene products to refugees arriving as well as providing protective services for the childhood, such as targeted support for unaccompanied minors separated from families, psychosocial support and access to legal services.

The president of Spezia Calcio Philip Platek summarized the reasons for this generous initiative as follows: “In this very difficult moment, it seemed only right to take the field in a concrete way to help those who are subjected to terrible suffering and who have seen their lives turned upside down. within a few days. War is always an ignoble and inhuman act and once again it is the smallest ones who pay the price, literally stolen the innocence that should characterize their daily life, made up of smiles and dreams. Supporting Save the Children was a heartfelt choice for those who help millions of children all over the world every day and who immediately took action to do their part in Ukraine as well. Ours is just a small gesture, but we hope it will bring at least some relief to many children who are experiencing days of terror ”.

“The images that come from Ukraine these days are dramatic. Devastation, pain, tears, many innocent victims including many children”. The President of Cagliari Calcio, Tommaso Giulini, said: “By supporting the Spezia initiative and Save the Children, the Club wants to make its contribution, the goal now is to bring immediate aid to the Ukrainian population who are in absolute and urgent need”. “The initiatives of La Spezia and Cagliari – to whom our thanks go – have impressed us very much because they are spontaneous and animated by the concrete desire to collaborate and lend a hand: at this moment we really need everyone’s help. There is no solidarity ranking, everyone can make their contribution and each donation is an important gesture. Football has millions of fans and we hope that this initiative will inspire and invite other teams to donate together with their fans ”, said Filippo Ungaro, Save the Children’s Communications Director, in thanking the presidents of the two clubs Platek and Giulini.
