Chinese Swimmer Tang Qianting Wins Silver and Breaks Asian Record at 2024 World Swimming Championships
The 2024 World Swimming Championships came to a close in Doha, Qatar on February 18th, with the Chinese swimming team leaving a strong impression. 19-year-old Chinese swimmer Tang Qianting won the silver medal in the women’s 50-meter breaststroke final, breaking her own Asian record in the process. The Chinese team concluded the Championships with 7 golds, 3 silvers, and 1 bronze, securing the second spot in the swimming gold medal list.
In the women’s 50-meter breaststroke semifinals, Tang Qianting set a new Asian record with a time of 29.80 seconds. She then went on to break her own record in the final, finishing with a time of 29.51 seconds. Tang Qianting also claimed the gold medal in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke event, setting a time of 1:05.27 and breaking the national record set in 2009. Her stellar performance in both breaststroke events at the World Championships has boosted her confidence, as she aims to swim even faster in the future.
Elsewhere at the Championships, Ireland’s Whifen secured gold in the men’s 1,500-meter freestyle final, adding to his victory in the men’s 800-meter freestyle. The Chinese team also performed admirably, winning a total of 23 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals across swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and other events.
The Chinese swimming team set the only world record in the competition and broke two Asian records. With their outstanding performance, they topped both the gold medal list and the overall medal list at the Championships.
As the thrilling 17-day competition came to an end, the Chinese team’s dominance in the pool solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in the world of swimming.
