The highly anticipated 2024 Billie Jean Gold Cup International Women’s Tennis Team Asia Region Group One is set to take place in Changsha, Hunan from April 9 to 13. The tournament will feature six teams, including the Chinese team, the Indian team, South Korea, New Zealand, Pacific Oceania United, and Chinese Taipei, vying for two spots to advance to the World Group play-offs. The Chinese team is comprised of top players Zheng Qinwen, Wang Xinyu, Wang Xiyu, Zhu Lin, and Guo Hanyu.

Leading the Chinese team is Zheng Qinwen, who currently ranks seventh in singles in the latest world rankings. The competition will follow a round-robin format, with each match consisting of two singles and one doubles game. After the group stage, the top two teams will move on to the World Group play-offs, while the third and fourth teams will be relegated, and the bottom two teams will be demoted to the Asia-Pacific Group Two.

Last year, the Chinese team finished third in the group, missing out on advancing to the World Group play-offs. However, in 2008, the Chinese team made it to the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup World Group, marking their best result in the competition.

Formerly known as the Fed Cup, the Billie Jean King Cup is the premier women’s tennis team competition globally, founded in 1963. In 2020, the International Tennis Federation renamed the tournament the Billie Jean King Cup in recognition of American tennis legend Billie Jean King’s significant contributions to the sport.
