From 16 to 19 September Olbia will host the Italian Open championships in the Windsurfer class. Over 250 athletes are coming

OLBIA. It broke into the hearts of sportsmen over fifty years ago, was in vogue until the early Eighties, then it was put aside, somehow overtaken by the evolution of itself. Now the board of the “Windsurfer” class is experiencing a new youth, dusted off by the old sea wolves and discovered by the new generation thanks to the technological adjustments related to materials and supports.

Next month, from 16 to 19 September, the old queen of surfboards will be the absolute protagonist with the island of Tavolara in the background: in fact, in the stretch of sea in front of Pittulongu beach, an event that will involve the best specialists is scheduled. Italians and many big names from all over the world.

By hosting the forty-seventh edition of the Italian Championship of the international Windsurfer class, Gallura thus ensures a very important showcase, with the organization entrusted to the Olbia Nautical Club with the support of the municipal administration of Olbia and that of Golfo Aranci.

The number of athletes involved is estimated to be between 250 and 300, with a round of attendance linked to the event, including technicians, companions and enthusiasts, which will approach one thousand for an entire week. A breath of fresh air not bad for the structures connected to the event, in a period certainly not of high season. The Open formula, which assigns the Italian title but allows the participation of athletes of any nationality, expands dramatically

The way in which the event was conceived is also interesting: the races, as mentioned, will take place in Pittulongu, and the nautical base and the race direction will be arranged on the same beach as the “Playa” so dear to the people of Olbia. Not only that: entertainment events are scheduled for all competition days that will aim to involve even those who are not part of the large family of surfboard enthusiasts.

The other point of reference both at an organizational level and with regard to hospitality, will be the Molo Brin, with the headquarters of the historic Olbia Nautical Club which in recent years has been involved in an important restyling work. Overall, the goal is to involve at least 10 thousand people, including competitions and collateral events.

While waiting for further details of the event to be revealed, Gallura already has the certainty of being able to host an event of absolute importance for one of the so-called months of shoulder, which could pave the way for further events at national and international level.
