The 15th National Games Set to be Held in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau in 2025
Xinhua News Agency, Guangzhou, April 11 (Reporter Wang Haoming) – The 15th National Games are scheduled to take place in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau from November 9 to 21, 2025. Guangzhou will host the opening ceremony, while Shenzhen will be the host city for the closing ceremony. This information was revealed during a press conference held on the 11th of April.
The Organizing Committee of the 15th National Games was officially established on the same day, signaling that preparations for the games are now in full swing. Zhang Xin, director of the Competitive Sports Department of the State Sports General Administration, announced that the sports competitions will feature 34 major events and 401 minor events, along with 23 major events and 166 minor events for mass participation.
Guangdong will be the primary host for most events, while Hong Kong and Macau will also host several competitions. Hong Kong will be responsible for events such as men’s basketball under-22s, track cycling, fencing, and golf, among others. Macau will host table tennis, women’s volleyball, three-person basketball, and more. The majority of venues for the games are existing facilities, aiming to reduce costs and ensure efficient hosting.
“The 15th National Games, hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, is the largest, highest-level, and most influential comprehensive sports event in the country. It is also the first time that Hong Kong and Macao will be hosting a national sports event, signifying its significant impact,” Zhang Xin remarked.
The preparation for the 15th National Games has been guided by the principles of environmental sustainability, inclusivity, transparency, and efficiency. The collaborative efforts of the State Sports General Administration, Guangdong Provincial Government, Hong Kong SAR Government, and Macau SAR Government have been instrumental in ensuring the successful organization of the games.
