Rowing World Cup in Varese

Gent –

Tim Brys went to Varese, Italy, with his coach Dirk Crois to participate in the first World Cup regatta. The duo mainly wanted to see what the ambitions might be in the European Olympic qualifying race, which Brys will row in Szeged in fourteen days. In any case, Brys and Crois can return to Ghent with a good feeling, because the skiffeur from KR Club Gent finished this World Cup regatta in an excellent fifth place.

After two impressive victories on the first day of competition, Brys managed to pocket a ticket for the medal race on Saturday with an excellent third place in the semi-finals. In that World Cup final, Brys had to compete against the German world champion Oliver Zeidler and the Dutch vice-world champion Simon van Dorp. Moreover, the Italian Davide Mumolo and Brys were the only finalists who did not yet have an Olympic ticket in their pocket. Both outsiders went all out. There was of course little that could be done against the Zeidler-Van Dorp duo, but both the British George Bourne and the Croatian Damir Martin had more than their hands full with our compatriot. Martin even had to leave Brys halfway through third place and then completely lost the role. Mumolo launched his final offensive 500 meters from the end. Bourne slid along with the Italian and both skiffers sent Brys to fifth place. In any case, a result for the 31-year-old Ghent resident with which he and his coach Crois can travel to Szeged with great confidence.
