Ski mountaineering: for now the date of February 19th remains

Little snow. But the Transcavallo long distance team 7. 0 on February 19th remains in the program, albeit with a plan B in terms of a route ready as an alternative. After a snowy start to the season in the Alpago mountains, as in all the Alps, snow has started to run out. Indeed, it almost seems to be in an early spring. This worries the organizing committee chaired by Vittorio Romor. At the moment, however, there are no program changes.
«On the southern slopes there is very little snow», he explains, «luckily the temperatures are not so high and what little snow there is is resisting; but the situation worries us a little, above all because the various forecast models do not announce any incoming snow disturbances. Maybe in the first days of February something could change, but I don’t see anything interesting ».
In any case, the Transcavallo organizational machine works at full capacity.
«The registrations arrive at the secretariat every day, even if compared to past editions there is a slowdown. I think this is due precisely to the lack of snow that exists in all the Alps. On paper we have already prepared a plan B, as for the 2017 World Championships. The competition area for both competitions could be Val Salatis. The world championship valley will allow us to design a technical, mountaineering and fun course following the traces of the World Championship with approximately 22 kilometers of development and approximately 2500 meters of elevation gain ».
There are still many days left until the start and not all hopes of running along the original route are lost, calculating that in case of need the race can be postponed to Sunday 20 February. The 39th Transcavallo will be a competition affiliated with the legendary La Grande Course circuit, so before registering, athletes must register (free of charge) on the website www. grandecourse. com.
