Although he had already said goodbye to his teammates, the transfer of Victory Beniangba (20) to Red Star Belgrade was canceled. The striker will train again with Jong Genk on Thursday.
Everything was fine between Beniangba and Red Star, but no agreement was reached at club level. KRC Genk does not want to discuss the content of the conversations and the details of the deal, but they confirm that the transfer has been called off. That is why Beniangba returned to Limburg on Monday. “Victory was not back in time to train,” it said. “The boys of trainer Jelle Coen have Tuesday and Wednesday off. He won’t join the group again until Thursday.”
Beniangba will see his ‘old’ teammates again sooner than expected. More than a week ago, on the Sunday before the home match against Dender, the Nigerian had informed his teammates via a message in the player group that it would be his last match at Jong Genk. A few days later on Wednesday, just before he took the plane to Serbia, he addressed the group of players again and thanked them for the nice moments.
Beniangba was confident the transfer could be completed before the Serbian transfer deadline closed on Friday. But he saw his transition to Red Star, which played the Champions League this season and is second after arch-rival Partizan, go up in smoke.
