Rome, 1 May 2022 – War in Ukraine, is yellow on Russian chief of staff, Valery Gerasimov. The general would be evacuated from the zone of hostilities with splinter wounds, after being sent to Ukraine recently by the president Vladimir Putin. Several report it Ukrainian sources including former Interior Minister Arsen Avakov. “Gerasimov was wounded on the territory of Ukraine. He has a shrapnel injury to his lower right leg with no bone fracture, ”Avakov tweeted.
Gerasimov was allegedly wounded in yesterday’s attack near a Russian headquarters in Izyumin the Kharviv region, at the center of intense fighting.

The Kremlin leader had sent Gerasimov to the region to take personal control of theoffensive on the Donbass. According to Anton Geraschchenko, advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of the Interior, in what he defined as an “explosion”, Izyum was also present
Gerasimov. “He was there to lead the attack on Sloviansk”, he tweeted, “a large number of deaths and injuries have also been confirmed among senior officers.”

The alleged injuries Gerasimov sustained did not endanger his life, but were serious enough that he needed to be evacuated from the front line to Russia for further treatment. He allegedly made a stopover in Belgorod, a few kilometers from the border with Ukraine and where today a fire struck a Russian military structure. The wounding of Gerasimov has not been verified and independent sources nor confirmed by Kiev or Moscow.

According to other sources, the general would be instead escaped the attack. Certainly, the very fact that he was sent to the front is an anomaly. Not only because of his office but also because he possesses the nuclear codestogether with Putin himself and the Minister of Defense Serghei Shoigu.
