Valtellina Orobie, the 37th edition previously postponed due to high avalanche risk resumes on Monday. Valid as a stage of the Central Alps Cup circuit, the Meriggio super classic will be staged in the individual formula and will be open to all categories.
«In recent days the technical staff of the Polisportiva Albosaggia led by the race director Massimo Murada, the route director Luca Melé and the mountain guide Maurizio Folini have carried out a series of reconnaissance which gave positive results – declared the president of the Orobic association Alessandro Plans -. Fortunately, the entire slope, thanks to its strong northern exposure, still allows good snow starting from 1500m and the conditions at altitude are such as to allow the classic and spectacular routes that characterize the slopes of Meriggio. As if that wasn’t enough, further snowfalls are expected in these days which will further favor the progress of the race.”
Several amateurs and all the home champions are expected at the start; first and foremost Giulia Murada, Alba De Silvestro and Michele Boscacci: «You can’t miss the Valtellina Orobie – began the CS Army standard bearer -. This is the home race for us; indeed almost a second home because the Meriggio is our training gym. Now that the season is coming to an end I will use this test to regain my condition after the strong flu attack in mid-March, in view of the World Cup finals, the Italian pairs championships and the Patrouille Des Glaciers which will award the 2024 long distance world championship titles ».
