Things haven’t been going well for Michael van Gerwen lately. Immediately out at the UK Open, quickly lost twice in a row in the Premier League and as defending champion immediately eliminated at the Belgian Darts Open. And then he had to give an interview via a laptop in between…

Images recently surfaced of an interview of the three-time world champion with Viaplay. That is the Dutch channel that shows darts on TV. Normally they are present at all kinds of tournaments, but that was not the case during the Premier League evening in Brighton and so Van Gerwen had to give a video interview. Much to his frustration.
“I wonder where Arjan van der Giessen is,” said the Dutchman, referring to the permanent man on location at Viaplay. “He was in England yesterday, so why isn’t he here?” The man in the studio did not understand Van Gerwen’s point, but the latter wanted to make one anyway. “This is a message to everyone there, it’s great live too, so everyone knows what’s going on. They just need to send someone here. They were in the country and now I’m sitting here in front of a laptop… Last week I looked like a moron. I’m just disappointed about that, even more so than about my own playing, you have to think. This just comes across as very amateurish to the rest of the world. We as darts players come from very far away and they come here with a laptop on. Yeah, that’s just awful. And that has nothing to do with my game. There’s just no point in interviewing losers, they have nothing useful to say anyway.”
