Greenyard Maaseik Maaseik will have to do without libero Martin Partin (21) for the rest of the season. The goldcrest immediately stops his career as a professional volleyball player after collapsing on the court for the second time in a year and a half. “Two questions immediately came to mind: why did this happen and will I be able to play at a top level again? Unfortunately, I have not received an answer to the first question in recent days. Which automatically led to the answer to the second question, the question I dreaded the most. This is why, after long consultation with the team of cardiologists at the Citadelle hospital, the rational and reasoned decision was made to – unfortunately – end my career as a professional top volleyball player from today. It is with great emotion that I convey this message to you, but also with the clear realization that this is the right decision. Life is the most important…,” writes an emotional Perin on social media.

“Some dreams came true and were fantastic moments of emotion, while others, like playing in Italy, will never come true”

“New chapter”

“From my early days at Waremme Volley, my psychomotor development to the first team, to the national youth and senior teams and ultimately Greenyard Maaseik, I have always worked hard to achieve my personal goals and make my dreams come true. Some of those dreams came true and were fantastic moments of emotion, while others, like playing in Italy, will never come true. A chapter of my life is closing and a new one will soon start. I would like to thank all the people who have always supported me, starting with my parents, my brother, my whole family, all my friends, my coaches, my teammates and all the fans. I have been very fortunate to have been able to turn my passion into a profession and I am very proud of what I have achieved.”

Martin now wants to relax with his family, focus on himself and think about his future.
