Li Wenwen Dominates 2024 Weightlifting World Cup in Phuket, Thailand
Phuket, Thailand- Chinese weightlifter Li Wenwen showcased her dominance once again at the 2024 Weightlifting World Cup held in Phuket, Thailand on April 10th. Li Wenwen, who is the reigning Tokyo Olympics champion and world record holder in the women’s 87kg and above category, secured three gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total score competitions.
During the competition, Li Wenwen lifted an impressive 145kg in the snatch and 180kg in the clean and jerk, finishing with a total score of 325kg. Her performance was unmatched, with a 29kg lead over South Korean player Park Hye-jung, who claimed the second spot.
Despite missing several events after sustaining an injury at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, Li Wenwen made a remarkable comeback at the Thailand Weightlifting World Cup. Reflecting on her journey back to the top, she mentioned that she focused on improving her movements and constantly challenging herself to achieve her current level of performance.
“It is by constantly challenging myself, breaking through, and looking for problems every day that I can achieve my performance on the field today. Although it is not perfect, I still managed it,” Li Wenwen shared.
The Thailand Weightlifting World Cup, which started on March 31 and will conclude on April 11, serves as a crucial event for athletes aiming to qualify for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Li Wenwen’s outstanding performance has once again solidified her position as one of the leading contenders in the sport of weightlifting.
