PORDENONE. The slogan is captivating: “Sport that helps sport”. The at least unusual initiative: a sporting event, an internationally famous Pordenone brand for several years, supports two other important sporting realities of the city, namely the basketball system and the Gs Hockey Pordenone. And these are not small contributions, but funds that will cover 25 percent of the seasonal budget of each of the two sports clubs.
It is not known precisely the figures in question, but apparently the basketball club, which – as is well known – recently was on the point of giving up the entire activity due to economic problems, it is thanks to this agreement that it is managed to register for the Serie C silver championship: this was confirmed during yesterday’s presentation by the vice president of the basketball system, Stefano Vedovato: «Yes, we lacked an important“ slice ”of the necessary amount». In short, it can be said that the Italian Baja saved basketball in Pordenone. At least for now.
«I tried to combine my passions – explained Mauro Tavella, owner of Top srl, the company that manages the Italian Baja brand – to help two friends. As a kid, I loved basketball and hockey, as well as racing. When I saw that basketball in the city was in danger of disappearing, I put a hand on my conscience. Ours is an investment, I hope that other Pordenone entrepreneurs have the same courage and follow the example by supporting other sports realities that bear the name of Pordenone ».
The Italian Baja brand will appear on the jerseys of the system and will even be the main sponsor on that of the GS Hockey Pn. «The goal – continued Tavella – was to try to give these two clubs some economic serenity until May 2022, absolutely without any ambition to interfere in their sports programs. At the end of the season we will sit down at a table and see if and what it will be possible to do for the future ».
«An important help – said the new president of GS Hockey, Sergio Maistrello – which comes at a time of rebirth of the club after the relegation from A2: we start again with and for the young people of Pordenone. This agreement with Italian Baja gives us more strength to start the cycle that we would like to bring the city back to the levels that compete in this sport, which has always been loved in these parts. And then I underline the beautiful idea of putting together several sports realities, a collaboration that will undoubtedly bring benefits to all the realities involved and to the Pordenone enthusiasts of motors, basketball and hockey ».
