Nintendo Ends Online Services for 3DS and Wii U, Offers Account Transfers and Refunds
In a recent announcement, Nintendo officially stated that as of April 8, the online services for the 3DS and Wii U consoles will cease to function. This includes online cooperative games, Internet rankings, and data distribution. However, the company reassured players that after the online service ends, they will still be able to download game update data and purchased content. Additionally, the āPokemon Bankā will remain in service, although there is a possibility of termination in the future.
To ease the transition for users, Nintendo has provided the option to transfer unused Nintendo eShop balances to their Nintendo Account accounts, provided that this is done by March 11. This will allow players to continue enjoying services on the Switch platform.
It was previously announced that the eShop game stores for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U ceased operations on March 27, 2023. In response, Nintendo launched a dedicated refund page in October to process refunds for unused balances on 3DS and Wii U. Users also have the option to link their wallets to their Nintendo Account accounts, allowing them to purchase games on the Switch platform. This feature will be available until March 2024.
While the end of online services for the 3DS and Wii U may come as a disappointment to some players, Nintendo is working to provide options for users to transfer their funds and continue enjoying their gaming experiences.
