Apple Patent Application Reveals Futuristic MacBook Design with Touch Screen Functionality
The US Patent and Trademark Office has officially announced an Apple patent application that is bound to turn heads – a MacBook with a metal frame and glass surface, equipped with a touch screen. This innovative design breaks tradition in laptop design, featuring front and rear covers made of glass and a touch-sensitive display screen.
According to the patent document, the display part of this futuristic laptop computer consists of a metal casing and two glass elements that form the front and rear outer surfaces of the display. A touch-sensitive layer is placed between the display screen and the front glass element, making the screen touch- and/or force-sensitive. Additionally, the display may include a camera lens for video calls.
The patent also hints at the possibility of using virtual keyboards on the laptop, in addition to traditional mechanical keyboards. While not all patents submitted by Apple may necessarily become final products, they serve the purpose of design protection.
Interestingly, Lenovo had previously demonstrated a “transparent laptop” at the 2024 Global Mobile Communications Conference MWC, which bore similarities to Apple’s patent.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also provided insights into Apple’s future developments, suggesting that a foldable screen MacBook will debut within three years. Apple’s OLED roadmap reveals plans for a 20.3-inch iPad Pro foldable machine expected to be released in 2027. Additionally, a macOS repair tool called “Fix Tim” is said to address retro bugs such as Wi-Fi and iCloud synchronization failures without requiring a system restart.
