Apple supplier Foxconn is investing 460 million euros in India

A new factory is to be built in the southern Indian metropolis of Hyderabad, which will create 25,000 new jobs.

The Taiwanese Apple supplier Foxconn wants to invest 500 million US dollars (460 million euros) in a new factory in India. This would lead to 25,000 direct jobs in the southern Indian metropolis of Hyderabad, announced the IT Minister of the local state of Telangana, KT Rama Rao, on Monday.

Foxconn and other Apple suppliers already have manufacturing facilities in India, where there are government incentives for smartphone production. Most Apple products are made in China. But recently there have been repeated reports that Apple would like to increasingly diversify its supply chains in view of geopolitical tensions with China – the focus is on India and Vietnam.
