Trams rattle, young people shout, dogs bark. Big city noises are difficult to separate and natural spots are a rare commodity. Garden centers and hardware stores advertise a supposed panacea for more idyll: insect hotels. They are intended to attract wild bees and other insects, offer them a place to nest and thereby increase biodiversity. Since the balcony needs a freshening treatment after the rainy winter and we could use a little more humming instead of the hum of the car, it’s time to get to work.
