The Colombian army (EJC) has received 25 Shield X2D drones through its Aviation Division Air Assault (Davaa). These new systems were donated by the United States Embassy in Colombia, specifically through its section of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), to enhance the protection of Colombian units involved in interdiction and control operations against illegal mining.
The deployment of these minidrones will provide troops with a surveillance system for precise recognition of the terrain and real-time situational awareness in potentially risky scenarios. The X2D drones are made of a foldable carbon fiber and magnesium structure, measuring 30 centimeters long by 14 wide and nine high. They are equipped with six 4k cameras, a 12 MP color camera, Flir 320×256, an autonomy of 35 kilometers, a range of up to ten kilometers, encryption systems, and can be deployed in just one minute and 15 seconds.
This donation aims to support the Colombian army in its efforts to combat illegal mining activities and enhance security in the region.
