Xinhua News Agency, Bangkok, May 12 – Chinese and Thai companies have joined forces to build 5G factories in Thailand, aiming to support the country’s digital transformation efforts.

Midea Group’s Home Air Conditioning Division has unveiled its first overseas 5G factory in Chonburi, Thailand. Spanning an area of around 208,000 square meters, the factory boasts an annual production capacity of over 4 million units. The collaboration between Midea, China Unicom, Huawei, and Thai operator AIS has resulted in the creation of a fully connected smart factory, incorporating advanced technologies such as industrial Internet, automation, informatization, and lean logistics.

The factory is equipped with a 5G exclusive network covering approximately 160,000 square meters, enabling efficient interconnection of the production line. Asni Vipatawat, from AIS, emphasized the role of the 5G private network in enhancing operational efficiency by 15% to 20%.

Cai Yaowu, general manager of Midea Air Conditioning Thailand Factory, highlighted the benefits of the 5G private network in streamlining communication and improving productivity. The factory has also implemented a 5G+AI visual quality inspection system, reducing the rework rate by 75%.

Suparu Chotila, a quality department employee, emphasized the impact of 5G+AI technology on improving quality indicators and traceability. Asni expressed gratitude for the partnership with Chinese companies, noting the valuable experience gained in applying 5G technology for digital transformation.

In addition to the manufacturing sector, Chinese companies like Huawei are expanding their digital ecosystems in various industries in Thailand. Waragaon, the chief technology officer of Huawei Thailand, highlighted the knowledge exchange between China and Thailand in the development of 5G technology, promising more innovative applications tailored to the local context.
