GitLab Integrates AI Development Assistant ‘Duo Chat’ into Platform
Last week, GitLab, the software integrated development platform, announced that the AI development assistant Duo Chat is now included in GitLab 16.11. This new feature allows paid version users to complete DevSecOps program development through natural language interaction.
Duo Chat is part of the AI assistant Duo Pro, which was announced earlier this year and includes Code Suggestions, Chat, and organizational control functions. The Duo Chat feature can provide instant guidance for engineers or users with non-engineering backgrounds throughout the entire development life cycle.
In addition to the integration of Duo Chat, GitLab also announced that three major AI program development assistant functions are now officially online and can be accessed through Chat. These functions include explaining code to help developers understand unfamiliar code, refactoring code to improve and modernize existing code, and automatically writing tests to catch bugs for features or development methods.
Users can access Duo Chat through GitLab UI such as GitLab Web IDE or integrate it into common IDEs such as VS Code and JetBrains IDE suite through the Duo Pro plug-in. The tool can also be expanded by integrating user-owned tools to meet enterprise development needs.
One of the highlights of the new tool is its built-in privacy protection, ensuring that customer data is not used to train AI models. Additionally, the access control feature allows enterprises to control AI reading at the project, subgroup, and group levels to prevent sensitive data leakage.
GitLab Duo Pro, along with the new features, is now available for purchase by GitLab Premium and Ultimate customers for $19 per person per month. The company also announced that other new Duo features are open for trial in beta, including updated AI security features and automated template tools to help development teams collaboratively solve problems, consolidate requirements, and review code.
Overall, GitLab’s integration of AI development assistant Duo Chat into its platform marks a significant step forward in facilitating DevSecOps program development through natural language interaction.
