WhatsApp to stop running on certain phone models from February 2024
Popular messaging application WhatsApp has announced that starting in February 2024, some phone models will no longer be able to run the platform due to constant updates that generate incompatibility with older versions.
According to the portal Infobae, the affected phone models include those made by Samsung, LG, Huawei, Sony, Xiaomi, HTC, Lenovo, Faea, Wiko, Archos, and ZTE, such as the Galaxy Core, Galaxy Ace 2, Optimus L3 II Dual, Huawei Ascend Mate, and Sony Xperia M, among others.
Additionally, in the case of iPhones, models released before 2016, including the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5C, 6S, SE, and 6S Plus, will also be affected and will no longer be able to run the WhatsApp application.
Users of these affected phone models are recommended to back up their messages to avoid data loss. This process can be done from the phone’s settings or within the WhatsApp application, and the data will be stored in the cloud, allowing it to be downloaded when changing phones.
For iPhone users, making a backup can be done by opening WhatsApp, going to Settings, selecting the ‘Chats’ option, and clicking on the Backup option to back up the data to Google Drive.
It is advisable for users with affected phone models to make a backup copy by following the process of opening WhatsApp, going to Settings, selecting the ‘Chats’ option, and clicking on the Backup option to begin the backup process.
With this upcoming change, users of the affected phone models are advised to take the necessary steps to back up their data and prepare for the transition before the scheduled discontinuation of WhatsApp on these devices in February 2024.
