Google Unveils Gemini: The New and Improved AI Chatbot

Google has made waves in the world of artificial intelligence (AI) with the announcement of its revamped AI chatbot, now known as Gemini. The tech giant revealed that the new technology will be available in a dedicated Gemini app for Android, as well as through the Google app on iOS. In addition, Google is launching a paid “advanced” version of the chatbot.

The rebranding comes after the initial launch of Google’s Bard chatbot in early 2023, which gained popularity in the wake of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. According to Sissie Hsiao, the vice president and general director of Gemini experiences and Google assistant, the chatbot is powered by the Gemini Pro language model (LLM) and is available globally in 40 different languages.

One of the most exciting features of Gemini is its multimodal capabilities, allowing users to interact with the chatbot through written messages, spoken queries, and even image sharing. Hsiao emphasized that Gemini is a significant step towards creating a true AI assistant, with the ability to provide users with practical assistance, such as offering step-by-step tutorials based on images of real-world problems like a flat tire.

Google is also rolling out the advanced version of Gemini, which boasts access to the LLM Ultra 1.0 model and can handle more complex tasks, such as programming and logical reasoning. This premium version, known as Gemini Advanced, will be available for a monthly subscription fee of $19.99 and will also include access to Google One premium package and 2 terabytes of Google storage.

In a bid to further integrate Gemini into its ecosystem, Google is working on enabling Gemini use within its Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet applications for Google One AI Premium users.

With these developments, Google is positioning itself as a leader in the field of AI chatbots, directly competing with other tech giants such as OpenAI and Microsoft. This move underscores Google’s commitment to advancing the capabilities of AI and demonstrates its determination to remain at the forefront of AI-powered technologies.
