Google Layoffs: 12 Thousand Unemployed Since January 2023
Google has made a massive layoff and there are around 12 thousand personas those who remain unemployed from said corporate January 2023 to date.
A year ago, Google and its parent company, Alphabet, reported a year ago that the layoffs would be to reduce costs; and so far, of the hundreds of employees laid off are from the hardware, voice assistance and engineering areas.
“Invest responsibly in our company’s highest priorities and the important opportunities ahead,” Google said in a press release.
And although there are several Google departments that have been affected by the mass layoff, the company itself recognized that the area of augmented reality is the one that is most affected. And so far the number of layoffs that are going on represents around six percent of Google’s total workforce.
“Unfortunately we need to make a significant reduction in the size of the recruiting organization,” Brian Ong, vice president of recruiting at Google, told his employees in a video call to which the North American media CNBC has had access.
