Google’s in-house Tensor G3 chip works inside the smartphone. This means that the cell phone offers the same performance as the normal Google Pixel 8. This also applies to the AI functions, which are largely responsible for the smartphone’s stylish snapshots.
The processor is supported by 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage space. The battery has a typical capacity of 4,492 mAh and can be charged both with and without a cable. However, the charging power is comparatively low at 20 or 7.5 watts.
As far as the hardware of the camera is concerned, nothing has changed compared to its immediate predecessor. A dual camera is used, consisting of a 64 MP wide-angle camera and a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. There is also a 13 MP front camera.

The display of the Google Pixel 8a is 6.1 inches, has a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and has a frame rate of 120 Hertz. As is typical for OLEDs, the color and contrast values are at a high level. A maximum brightness of 1,400 cd/m² also promises good readability in direct sunlight. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Thanks to rounded edges, the smartphone should be comfortable to hold. The matte back is combined with a polished aluminum frame. An IP67 certification certifies that the entire structure is adequately protected against dust and water.
With “Aloe” and “Bay” there are two brand new colors to choose from. The Google Pixel 8a is also available again in “Obsidian” and “Porcelain”. Prices start at 549 euros. An additional highlight is the manufacturer’s update policy. Google promises seven years of operating system and security updates. The official release is May 14, 2024.
