Ikea has also been selling numerous smart home products for some time. In April the portfolio will be expanded to include a new radio-controlled socket. Although the new Tretakt model will only be launched in a few weeks, the newcomer is already available to buy locally.
Ikea launches new Tretakt smart socket
Ikea is the first port of call for many customers when it comes to cheap furniture and furnishings – but the furniture store chain now has much more to offer. Smart home devices have also been available for purchase for several years and the range of practical gadgets that can be controlled via smartphone continues to increase.
Now a Reddit user has made an interesting discovery during a trip through one of the furniture stores in Germany: a new smart socket called Tretakt.
The small socket was available on the market in a bundle together with the matching Rodret radio remote control a mere 9.99 euros sold. To put it into perspective: the remote control alone costs 5.99 euros when purchased individually at Ikea. Ikea confirmed to Golem that the Tretakt socket will also be available to buy without the remote control. The smart home gadget costs seven euros individually.
The Tretakt socket should also be connected via both the now retired Tradfri gateway and the new one Will Direct-Hub (look at Ikea) can be controlled. The socket can also be coupled with a motion detector (check it out at Ikea).
The Tretakt socket cannot yet be found on the German website, but the Swedish one already has its own product page with corresponding pictures and a complete description (source: Ikea Sweden). The socket supports Zigbee 3.0 and can deliver a maximum power of 3,680 watts.
Ikea is competing with itself
Ikea veterans might be surprised by the new product, because Ikea already has a smart socket from the Tradfri collection on offer (check it out at Ikea). However, the new model seems to be superior to the old one. The pedal socket is not just something built more compact than the Tradfri model, she also has one On/off button directly on the plug, so that the socket can be easily operated even without using the hub or remote control. It is also significantly cheaper. Ikea is currently charging 12.99 euros for the Tradfri socket, while the new Tretakt model only costs seven euros.
The new Ikea socket is not yet available nationwide and is not yet available in the online shop, but that should change in April change. Then the Tretakt socket will be officially included in the range.
