If you are a photographer or videographer, a fast and reliable memory card is a must! However, the super fast V90 SD cards can really cost money really quickly.
The āsmallerā V60 SD cards are often the better choice from a price/performance perspective.
At first glance, the Japanese manufacturer Nextorage offers a few very interesting models with its SE series (NX-F2SE Series)!
So these are quite exciting in terms of price for the advertised performance of 280 MB/s reading and 170 MB/s writing.
Letās take a look at whether the memory cards can also deliver this performance in practice.
What does V60 mean?
Modern SD cards are usually divided into different classes.
Actually, these classes represent the minimum constant writing speed. V30 = at least 30 MB/s etc. However, with 170 MB/s the Nextorage UHS-II SE would easily surpass the V90 rating.
In practice, manufacturers tend to divide this up as follows:
Write speed up to 90 MB/s = V30 Write speed between 90 and 200 MB/s = V60 Write speed over 200 MB/s = V90
A classic SD card
The Nextorage UHS-II SE V60 is a classic SD card. So we have a typical SD card housing made of black plastic with a gray write protection switch.
The sticker is also gray/white/black and looks unspectacular at first glance.
The general workmanship quality is ānormalā.
Performance of the Nextorage UHS-II SE V60 (NX-F2SE Series)
Nextorage advertises 280 MB/s reading and 170 MB/s writing for the 256 GB and 512 GB versions of the memory card. The 128 GB version, on the other hand, is said to be a lot slower, writing at up to 100 MB/s.
Here in the test I have both the 512 GB and 256 GB versions of the memory card.
First, letās take a look at the maximum data rates in CrystalDiskMark. CrystalDiskMark is very good at determining the maximum possible speed of storage media.
I tested this in the ProGrade PG09 card reader.
The values āālook very promising! Both memory cards were able to exceed the manufacturerās specifications by a good deal.
The 512 GB version achieved 293 MB/s reading and 193 MB/s writing.
The 256 GB version achieved 299 MB/s reading and 192 MB/s writing.
With these values, the Nextorage UHS-II SE, together with the Sabrent SD card, are the fastest V60 SD cards I have tested so far, impressive!
Practice test
But what does it look like in practice? Here I tested the two memory cards in the Canon R6II.
To do this, I switched it to the electronic shutter and fired 20 frames/s until the camera came to a stop for the first time.
We can see here that the Canon R6 II doesnāt make that many differences between the various SD cards when it comes to the time it takes for the cache to be filled. However, the Nextorage memory cards tend to perform very well here!
The differences are clearer in the time until the buffer is empty again and all images have been saved.
And here the two Nextorage memory cards perform very well! Together with the SABRENT SD card 256GB V60, these represent the spearhead of the V60 memory cards.
Only the significantly more expensive V90 SD cards can offer better speeds.
Is Nextorage trustworthy?
The Nextorage memory cards are really fast, thatās clear, but are they trustworthy?
Basically, any memory card can break, no matter how good the manufacturer is. However, there are of course more reliable and less reliable models.
Unfortunately, it is not easy to make an assessment here, as most manufacturers do not specify what NAND and controllers are installed. Nextorage also only uses 3D TLC NAND, which is not surprising given these data rates. In principle, 3D TLC is good, but there are fluctuations here too, depending on what exactly is being used.
So letās ask ourselves who Nextorage is. Nextorage was founded by Sony employees and is now part of Phison.
Phison is potentially the largest and most important manufacturer of SSD and storage controllers!
This alone gives Nextorage a certain amount of trust. When you scan the Amazon reviews (including Amazon.jp, com, etc.), the reviews are very positive! Accordingly, I would rate Nextorage as very trustworthy!
Conclusion
The 256 GB and 512 GB Nextorage UHS-II SE V60 SD cards* are great! These make an excellent impression, especially from a price/performance perspective.
Thatās what these are (together with the Sabrent SD card) the fastest V60 SD cards on the market or the fastest I have tested so far.
This applies both in benchmark and in practice. The performance of the memory cards was particularly impressive in the Canon R6 II and could only be surpassed by the significantly more expensive V90 models.
Nextorage is also a fundamentally trustworthy and good manufacturer, with its roots in Sony and its affiliation with Phison.
In short, the Nextorage UHS-II SE V60 SD cards are an absolute insider tip in my opinion!
