Laskie, the first acquisition of Twitter in the Musk era

A little over a year after Elon Musk’s first bid for Twitter, on April 25, 2022, Twitter’s parent company X Corp. made its first acquisition. It’s a startup, called Laskie, that offers a recruiting service for hiring tech talent.

Laskie’s platform, currently unavailable, matches tech professionals with prospective employers. In his website he claims that the tool can “confirm mutual interest, set clear expectations and give visibility to the hiring process.”

The figures of the operation have not been disclosed (one source spoke of “tens of millions”), but according to Bloomberg and Axios, it seems that it was carried out partly in cash and partly with a swap of shares.

This is Musk’s first major move since he said he wants to turn Twitter into a super app that can offer users many different functions, including payments.

A few days ago, on May 12, the South African billionaire also announced that he had appointed a new CEO for Twitter, former NBCUniversal executive Linda Yaccarino.
