Microsoft adds handy little features to Xbox app on handheld devices

Microsoft’s Xbox app has introduced a new “Compact Mode” feature for handheld consoles, aimed at improving user experience for gamers on the go. The update, which includes a “Jump Back in” quick bar and an enhanced friend interface, comes after months of testing and feedback from users.

The “Jump Back in” feature organizes the nine most recently played games as small icons at the top of the interface, allowing for easy access and quick game switching. Users can click on the game icon to enter the game page, or directly launch the game by pressing the menu key. The friend interface has also been improved, with notifications aligned for easier operation using a joystick, and an open button added to the shortcut bar on the left.

Initially available for Xbox Insiders to trial, it remains unclear when the updated Compact Mode interface will roll out to the general version. While some users have found the new features less intuitive to operate with traditional controller inputs, Microsoft’s commitment to listening to user feedback and making improvements signals a dedication to enhancing the gaming experience.
