New Rotamat for coating sealing elements for e-mobility

The Walther Trowal Rotamat R 100 coats elastomer sealing elements with diameters of up to 300 mm.

At PaintExpo, Walther Trowal is presenting the new Rotamat R 100 for the first time for coating sealing elements made of elastomers with anti-friction and decorative coatings. The new system coats three times as many parts per batch as the previous largest system in the series. One of the triggers for the development of the new machine was the desire of some contract coaters to process large-format flat gaskets in large quantities in the same batch.

An important area of application for Rotamats is the coating of O-rings and flat seals, for example for sealing the individual cells in battery packs, as well as in fuel cells, engines and transmissions.

Especially for the coating of large-format sealing components, which are installed, for example, in the cooling circuits and control units of electric vehicles, the need for larger coating systems has increased significantly, especially among contract coaters. That’s why the new Rotamat R 100 has a capacity of 160 l or 100 kg. For example, it coats around 300 sealing rings with a diameter of up to 350 mm or up to 50,000 O-rings per batch. Walther Trowal thus increases the contract coating capacity by a factor of three compared to its predecessor, the R 85… with identical time and only slightly higher energy and space requirements.

“So far, our customers have used the Rotamat to coat O-rings. “But with electric vehicles it is increasingly about large, often flat sealing elements made of elastomers for battery cells, cooling circuits with heat exchangers,” says Frank Siegel, Sales Manager “Coating Technology” at Walther Trowal.

The new Rotamat is also suitable for the decorative coating of plastic parts, for example made of ABS or polyethylene, as well as for thin-walled metal rings with diameters of up to 300 mm, which, for example as shaft seals, are coated with a binder before elastomers are applied.

In addition, the company has expanded the range of applications for Rotamats for the coating of sealing elements, for example for the application of oils and waxes as well as slow-drying paints.

About Walther Trowal

Surface technology from the inventor of trowelizing

Walther Trowal has been developing and producing process solutions for processing surfaces since 1931. Based on vibratory grinding technology – the term “Trowalizing” is derived from “Trommel Walther” – Walther Trowal has continuously expanded the range of products available. This resulted in a variety of systems and machines for vibratory grinding and blasting as well as for coating small mass-produced parts.

By inventing new processes such as drag grinding or processes for processing additively manufactured parts, the company has repeatedly demonstrated its high ability to innovate.

Walther Trowal implements complete system solutions that integrate seamlessly into customers’ linked production processes. This includes the entire process technology adapted to the specific requirements of the workpieces, in which machines and process equipment complement each other perfectly.

Since every workpiece and every production process places special demands on the process technology, the experienced specialists in the testing department work with the customers to develop the optimal process technology. The result: workpieces with surfaces that correspond exactly to the specifications – with short processing times and high reproducibility.

Walther Trowal is one of the few manufacturers who develop and manufacture both the machines and all the process materials for mass finishing technology themselves… on the one hand, the grinding bodies made of plastic or ceramic, and on the other hand, the compounds.

The product range also includes peripheral equipment for handling workpieces such as lifting and tilting devices, conveyor belts or roller conveyors, as well as dryers for vibratory grinding systems and systems for treating the process water.

With exchange programs for wear parts, in which, for example, work containers move in a constant cycle, Walther Trowal saves valuable resources and makes a contribution to sustainability in industrial production. The fast support and the worldwide repair and maintenance service ensure the high availability of the systems.

Walther Trowal supplies customers in a wide variety of industries around the world, such as the automotive and aircraft industries, medical technology and the wind energy industry.
