Paladin Studios, known for developing popular games such as Cut the Rope Remastered and Amazing Katamari Damacy has sadly announced that it will be closing its doors, resulting in the layoffs of 45 employees. The Dutch indie developer, founded nearly 20 years ago, stated that its “exploration has ended” and that they were unable to secure enough work to cover their expenses in recent months.
In a statement on their official website, the team expressed their gratitude for the support they have received over the years, saying, “For nearly 19 years, we’ve put our heart and soul into creating games that make you smile.” They went on to explain that the decision to close was made in order to prevent bankruptcy and ensure that all employees receive appropriate severance packages.
Despite the closure of the studio, Paladin Studios assured fans that their games will continue to exist and that they will provide ongoing technical support in the future. The studio has partnered with big names such as Nintendo, Apple Arcade, and Bandai Namco, leaving many in the gaming industry saddened by the news of their closure.
Sadly, this announcement is just one of many layoffs and studio closures that have been happening frequently in the gaming industry in 2024. As the industry continues to evolve and change, many are left wondering what the future holds for developers and studios across the globe.
