Those who were expecting the announcement on the occasion of Google i/O 2024, scheduled for next week, received a pleasant surprise yesterday: the Californian company has in fact decided to bring forward the announcement of the availability in various markets, including Italy, of two of its new flagship mobile products, the Pixel 8a smartphone and the Pixel Tablet. Both appear on the market with the promise of features and technical functions of a certain high profile (starting with the integration of artificial intelligence on board the device) and prices defined as accessible and competitive, and more precisely starting from 549 euros the telephone (net of the various promotions packaged for the launch set for May 14th by the official retailers, Amazon, Unieuro and Vodafone) and the tablet computer for 499 euros
A perfect photography smartphone for multitasking
One of the most important prerogatives of the Pixel 8a, from the point of view of the hardware equipment, is undoubtedly the presence of the proprietary Tensor G3 processor, the same one that we find on the flagship models of the family, 8 and 8 Pro, and which is accompanied by a Titan M2 security chip. From an aesthetic point of view, the new smartphone features rounded edges, a polished aluminum frame and IP67 certification to guarantee maximum resistance to slips, falls and dust. The declared plus of the 6.1-inch Actua display with Oled technology, however, is in terms of brightness, 40% higher than that of the Pixel 7a, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Said of the memory space of 256 GB (with 8 Gbyte of Ram), Google presented its latest creation by giving a lot of emphasis to the photographic section, defining it as the best among the devices that belong to the same category as the Pixel 8a: double rear camera with a 64 megapixel main lens, ultra lens 13 megapixel wide and 13 megapixel front unit. All accompanied by a series of tools driven by AI to refine shots and video footage by working on backgrounds and audio quality. Artificial intelligence is also the source of another important feature of the Pixel 8a, namely that of being a perfect smartphone for doing different activities (simultaneously) with greater ease. The “Circle and Search” function, for example, allows you to circle, doodle or tap an image, text or video to search for what interests you, without leaving the app you are browsing. Another gem concerns Google Maps and the “Immersive View” which allows you to virtually explore a place before even setting foot there, while with the “At a Glance” widget you have access to essential information (upcoming events, weather, updates on travel and reminders) directly on the lock screen, without even unlocking your phone.
A multipurpose tablet for the smart home.
With Pixel Tablet and its entire series of accessories (first and foremost charging station with speaker), Google is trying to find space in a market where Apple (which yesterday announced four new models from the Air and Pro families) continues to reign supreme , presenting a device that makes versatility of use one of its peculiar characteristics. A Tensor G2 chip operates in the engine of the device, the 11-inch touch display is complemented by four integrated speakers while in terms of design the aluminum casing covered in nano-ceramic is worth mentioning to make it easier to hold the tablet in the hand. Other improvements, as stated in the note released by the company, also concern greater ease of access to apps (thanks to the “Split Screen” function it is possible to use two at the same time) and among these there is also, pre-installed as standard and optimized for the screen bigger, even Google TV. Even for the Pixel Tablet, artificial intelligence is the factor that promises to make the difference especially in terms of productivity and management of contacts and images. Google Meet, for example, quickly adjusts the lighting as you move, automatically brings video calls to HD format and allows you to easily add 360-degree backgrounds that adapt depending on your position. Finally, among the qualities of the Pixel Tablet, the ability to function as a controller for the smart and connected home and as a video and music player thanks to integrated Chromecast also stands out: in Hub mode, it allows access via the Google Home icon to all compatible smart devices and then view the video doorbell feed, adjust the thermostat or turn on the living room lights as well as being able to transmit multimedia content on your phone
