Gartner has released data relating to the state of the semiconductor market, which revenues in 2023 amounted to $533 billiondown 11.1% compared to 2022.

In first place in the manufacturer rankings is Intel, which overtakes Samsung after two years in which it placed second. The Santa Clara company reported revenues in 2023 of 48.7 billion dollars, while Samsung stopped at 39.9 billion.

In NVIDIA semiconductor revenues also grewwhich increased by 56.4% to 24 billion dollars: this trend was driven by the leading position in the market of chips linked to artificial intelligence.

Gartner also focuses on the report in the report growth recorded by STMicroelectronicswhich rose three places to eighth place, thanks to revenue growth of 7.7%, an increase partly driven by its position in the automotive segment.

Revenues generated by memories instead decreased by 37% in 2023. Joe Unsworth, analyst at Gartner, explains in the report that “smartphones, PCs and servers, three of the most important segments for DRAM and NAND, faced weaker-than-expected demand and excess inventory, especially in the first half of 2023”. DRAM revenue fell 38.5% to $48.4 billion, while NAND flash memory revenue fell 37.5% to $36.2 billion.

Non-memory revenue fell 3% in 2023, due to the glut of units.
