Sony Releases Ver.6.0 Firmware Update for FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens

Sony has recently announced the release of the latest firmware Ver.6.0 for the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens. This comes as a welcome update following the discovery of issues with the previous Ver.4.0 firmware.

The Ver.4.0 firmware, which was launched by Sony at the end of 2023, was found to have a major problem where the autofocus and manual focus would stop working if the camera’s shooting mode was set to S&Q or 4K clips. Sony immediately suspended the download of this version and released Ver.5.0 to solve the issue.

The latest Ver.6.0 firmware not only fixes the focusing issue that was present in Ver.4.0, but it also adds support for the A9 III’s 120fps high-speed continuous shooting. This enhancement allows photographers using the A9 III with the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS to truly enjoy the extremely fast continuous shooting performance offered by the camera.

The update project for Ver.6.0 also includes added support for continuous shooting, allowing the lens to shoot continuously through the autofocus/autoexposure (AF/AE) tracking function, with a capability of up to 120 images per second when used with the ILCE-9M3 camera body. Additionally, improvements have been made to the autofocus performance when using the lens with the ILCE-9, as well as enhanced image stabilization performance when used with the ILCE-7RM5 camera.

Overall, the Ver.6.0 firmware update aims to improve operational stability and address previous issues with the lens, providing users with a more reliable and enhanced shooting experience.
