Sony Releases Latest Firmware Ver.6.0 for FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens

Sony has announced the release of the latest firmware Ver.6.0 for the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens. This update addresses the inability to focus that was present in the previous Ver.4.0 firmware and also adds support for the A9 III’s 120fps high-speed continuous shooting.

The previous Ver.4.0 firmware, released at the end of 2023, was found to have issues with autofocus and manual focus when the camera’s shooting mode was set to S&Q or 4K clips. As a result, Sony immediately suspended the download of this version and released Ver.5.0 to solve the problem.

With the release of Ver.6.0, Sony aims to provide a solution to the focus issues while also enhancing the shooting capabilities of the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens when used with the A9 III. The new firmware allows photographers to take full advantage of the A9 III’s 120fps high-speed continuous shooting, providing an improved shooting experience for users of this lens-camera combination.

The features and improvements included in the Ver.6.0 firmware update for the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens are as follows:
– Added support for continuous shooting with the A9 III, offering up to 120 images per second through the AF/AE tracking function.
– Fixed the issue where AF and MF would not work when the camera shooting mode is set to S&Q mode or 4K video mode in version 04.
– Improved continuous autofocus (AF-C) performance when focusing with the A9 III.
– Enhanced image stabilization performance when used with the ILCE-7RM5 camera.
– Improved operational stability.
