Actually, today should be the deadline. Sony recently announced that PC gamers will need a PSN account in order to play Helldivers 2 in the future. Apparently Sony is now backing down.
Recently, Sony announced that in order to continue playing Helldivers 2 on PC, a PSN account will be required in addition to a Steam account in the future and no later than May 30th. This decision was justified on the grounds that this would make it easier to ban toxic players in order to protect others from harassment. However, this announcement was met with little approval among the gaming community. Many players complained and gave the game negative reviews on Steam. This resulted in a cut of “mostly negative“, although the game from the Arrowhead development studio is actually considered successful.
Sony responds to feedback
The new update and the linking of the two accounts should actually come into force today, on May 6th, and all players should have a PSN account by May 30th at the latest. But Sony apparently took the community’s feedback to heart and officially announced today on X that the update will not be continued. Sony writes that they are still learning what is best for PC gamers. In addition, the feedback from the community is priceless for Sony and they want to continue to take it to heart in the future.
Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.
We’re still…
